What’s Next?

Because the school is in the Coastal Zone, the school district must apply for a Coastal Development Permit with the County of Santa Barbara and receive approval as well as submit the plans to the Division of State Architect prior to construction. The County’s review is limited to determining whether the project complies with local coastal policies. This process has been ongoing since early 2020. On October 2, the County Board of Architectural Review (BAR) gave preliminary concept approval subject to minor changes. Final approval by the BAR is expected at its meeting in November. Then the project will be presented to the County Planning Commission which is the authorizing entity for the Coastal Development Permit. Construction is anticipated to begin summer 2021.
